At the Kniebeißer, where the legs may well bite a little, the trail now leads more steeply uphill, through bizarre rocky landscapes to the edge of the glacier plateau.

After the fire in 1985, the new hut of the Austrian Tourist Club was opened.
Numerous alpine plants grow along the path: blue gentian, cabbage rosemary, alpine bush, Panonian gentian, saxifrage, to name just a few.
Continue past the mighty south face of the Torsäule, a highly enjoyable climbing area on the Hochkönig. Ab dem letzten Drittel können einige Schneefelder sein. Hier ist ein guter Platz zum Rasten (Quelle markiert).

The mountain tour to Franz-Eduard-Matrashaus at 2,943 m, is the top tour in the Hochkönig region.
Der Weg ist hier mit Markierungsstangen und Steinmanderln markiert, gute Sicht ist aber unbedingt erforderlich.
Entlang des südlich gelegenen Bratschenkopf (2.857 m) geht es nun immer Richtung Hochkönig (2.941 m). Take special care in wet and snowy conditions.

Da der Weg sehr steinig ist, muss man stets konzentriert sind und vorsichtig gehen.
Wenn Ihr den Auf- und Abstieg an einem Tag macht, dann müsst Ihr sehr früh starten. Die letzten Höhenmeter beklimmt man über Leitern. Es sind noch 2,5 Kilometer Wegstrecke und rund 200 hm zu überwinden.
